Things happen in life for a reason. For every failure, you learn to succeed. For every pain, you get stronger. Deficiency breeds appreciation. And so it happens that every time I'm with you, I realize how much I still love you. And even more so, I realize how much I can never be with you, that we're just not destined for each other in this lifetime.
Call me a romantic, but I like to think of it as some age long quest that we're destined to be going through. In some past life, we must have been angels, soul mates whose destinies were written in the stars, forever intertwined. And to appreciate the beauties of love, we decided to embark on a journey spanning lifetimes, constantly being reborn with each passing age. And each time through as mere mortals, we were to taste the bitterness that results from being apart from each other.
When we first started out, we didn't even meet. All we knew was that there was a longing lost feeling within our soul. As the ages came and went, as seasons changed, we journeyed through the courses of life like the stars that endlessly span the sky. In one cycle, we barely met for an instance, exchanging quick glances.
Here we are now, in this lifetime, knowing one another, but it is my turn to feel the pang of solitude as I watch you in your happy life.
And possibly in a future lifetime, we will finally end up together, only to be torn apart through some tragic ending, so that we may experience the pain of loss.
I know not yet how long this endless cycle will continue, knowing nothing else but that in each round, our appreciation for the frailties of love only grows.
It is only then at the end of our journey in the distant future, when the world has changed and the stars no longer gaze down from the heavens the way they do now, that we have learn all that there is to being in love. We learn to appreciate the true meaning of unconditional devotion. We learn the special nature of our union. And we can settle and appreciate the timeless spiritual bond that comes with us being soul mates...
